How do I troubleshoot Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express Error 0×800CCC0F?

You may get one of the following error messages, when you start Outlook Express or try to send an e-mail message,

 

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account:   ‘pophm.sympatico.ca’, Server: ‘pophm.sympatico.ca’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0×800CCC0F

 

Solution

 

This problem is often Security Software related. The first step is to;

 

The first step is to disable email scanning from any security software, such as Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall or McAfee etc and then reconfigure Outlook Express as this may be due to a corruption in the settings of outlook express. It is advisable to reconfigure Outlook Express to refresh the settings.

 

If the problems still persist, it could be that Outlook Express is itself corrupt. Microsoft’s instructions on how to delete it and reinstall it, along with making a backup of your address books etc, are given for Windows 98 and ME and for Windows 2000.
